Aitkin City Council hears from Street Reconstruction Plan, 2021 Assessment at April 19th meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin City Council held a public hearing for street reconstruction bonds and plan, and a presentation meeting from Aitkin County Assessor Mike Dangers Monday night from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room.

The Council did hear from Ehlers & Associates for the General Obligation Street Plan.

The Council did approve the issuance of up to $1,500,000 and the Street Reconstruction Plan. City Administrator Rose Beverly reviewed the two top applicants for the Street Department for an immediate opening and one for a soon-to-be retiree.

The recommendations for the two hirings were approved by the Council. Council Member Jason Henke gave a Parks Committee update over the recent conversations and comments from Aitkin residents concerning changes in the Pickle Ball Courts, Hockey Rink, and Skate Park.

Aitkin County Assessor Mike Dangers presented to the Council on the COVID-19 impact on home values in Aitkin County.

The Council also approved two Special Events Permits including Temporary Liquor License for the Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce and the “Paddle Your Glass Off” Event on June 19th.

The Aitkin City Council will next meet on Monday, May 3rd from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room.
