Representative Marquart Continues to Stand Behind Law Enforcement
St. Paul, MN — It’s a trying time for law enforcement and now more than ever people are calling for police reform. And while local Representative Paul Marquart agrees there may be a need for reformative measures, he’s standing behind local law enforcement who have to do an incredibly difficult job every day and says they don’t get the respect they deserve. During his weekly chat on the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program, Marquart notes that there is a stark contrast as to how law enforcement are viewed in the Twin Cities compared to greater Minnesota.
Some of the reformative measures, specifically around use of deadly force, approved in the legislature this past year since the death of George Floyd are causing issues with border communities who can no longer get mutual aid from other states. Representative Marquart says he has offered up an amendment in the public safety bill that would temporarily put those on hold.
