(Minnesota) — The Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency in Virginia is warning Northland residents of the latest scam this week after reports of someone asking for personal information on behalf of a local food shelf.
The AEOA reports that April 6th, an individual contacted a client of a local food shelf to acquire their Social Security Number claiming they were a representative from a food shelf. No client is required to provide personal information such as a SSN over the phone for food shelf programs. For your protection, do not provide your SSN to any caller claiming to be a food shelf representative.
AEOA is working with local law enforcement regarding the matter. Contact the police right away if you have been contacted in a similar manner.
AEOA would also remind everyone not to provide your SSN or any personal information to callers claiming to be a representative of a local food shelf.
