Aitkin Superintendent Dan Stifter talks winter sports, reductions, enrollment in monthly update

(Aitkin, MN) — Aitkin Public Schools Superintendent Dan Stifter noted changes coming to the District with reductions, upcoming events, and the success of the winter sports seasons, with our monthly conversation.

Stifter says the District has celebrated their qualifiers in Wrestling, Dance, and Hockey in the last few weeks, thanks in part to the volunteers and Athletics staff.

This Spring will provide many missed events from last year, including the musical “Sister Act” which will run April 8-11 from the High School Auditorium.

Recent actions and discussions with the Aitkin School Board have led the District to reduce class size at Rippleside Elementary and staff adjustments.

Enrollment numbers have been a catalyst for the reductions.

Stifter did also mention that after one year removed from going to full distance learning, the District is looking at establishing summer school programming.
