DNR Offers Tips & Reminders for Shed Hunting
Detroit Lakes, MN — With another warm nice, spring weekend ahead of us, perhaps a great opportunity for some fun, outdoor adventures is shed hunting. Each year during the late winter or early spring, male deer shed their antlers to begin the regrowth of a new set of bigger antlers. Searching for those antler sheds has become a growing trend as people are looking for outdoor activities, and sheds serve a cool memento and can be repurposed for a number of items, including coat racks, chandeliers, and other décor. Detroit Lakes Area Wildlife Supervisor Rob Baden is an avid shed hunter himself and provides some helpful tips for those anxious to find some antlers.
Not all antlers are fair game, however. Baden says you may not take anything off of state parks or federal land or remove antlers off of a carcass without a tag.
And of course, just like hunting, you may not trespass on someone else’s property without their permission.
