Rydell NWR Replaces Scenic Overlook
Erskine, MN — An iconic feature missing from the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge will be back for visitors to enjoy. The scenic overlook behind the refuge headquarters was torn down a few years ago as it was deemed to no longer be a safe structure. However, a new overlook is currently being constructed and Rydell and Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge Manager Gregg Knutsen is excited to announce that it should be open to the public later this spring.
Another project that’s been in the works for some time now is the repaving of County Road 210, but Knutsen is optimistic that it will be completed soon as well, which will improve access to the refuge.
And while the refuge was never closed because of the pandemic, many of the usual events and social activities were not held this past year. As restrictions loosen Knutsen is anticipating more staff will return to working in-person and some of the usual events like the Kids Fishing Derby will return.
