Aitkin City Council opposes House Legislation, approve Maintenance agreement at March 1st meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin City Council held their regular meeting Monday night from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room to continue with updates on the Municipal Maintenance Agreement and the Investment Policy.
The Council did approve the League of Minnesota Cities Liability Coverage Waiver Form. Mayor Megan Workman did open discussion concerning legislation on keeping the Municipal Liquor Store.
The Council proposed a resolution showing opposition to HF 1213 as well as HF 1277 of prohibiting lobbying on behalf of local government entities. City Administrator Rose Beverly presented to the Council on the Workman’s Compensation Insurance Premium Increase for the City of Aitkin.
The Council also moved their first meeting in July to July 7th at 6pm from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room. Approval was given for the 2021-22 Municipal Maintenance Agreement with Aitkin County on a total of $10,672.00.
Lon Nicko from the Aitkin Street Department requested the Council for approval on a new plow truck.
The Council approved Bid #1 for the truck coming from Nuss Trucking and Equipment and Equipment coming from Towmaster Equipment for a total of $245,619.68. Approval was also given to the update on the City’s Investment Policy.
The Aitkin City Council is next scheduled to meet on Monday, March 15th at 6pm from the Aitkin Public Library Community Room.
