(Crosby, MN) — Often the overlooked individuals of any local school district, School Bus Drivers have also experienced their fair share of troubles with the COVID-19 Pandemic. February 21-27 is National School Bus Driver Appreciation Week and serves as the perfect opportunity to give thanks for the selfless work of the drivers that ensure the safety of students to and from school and school related events everyday. C-I Transportation co-owner Josh Schiffler spoke to us about the changes of School Bus Driver Appreciation Week that used to be just one day.
The changes with scheduling, learning models, and routes for students who remain in-person or distant learning have also provided challenges for the past year for the drivers.
CI Transportation is also making a conscious effort to keep MDH guidelines a priority for the students as well as the drivers, which some are high-risk.
Schiffler also says the role of a school bus driver for a student is more pertinent than people may realize.
School Bus Driver Appreciation Week was expanded in proclamation from Governor Tim Walz while also working with the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association, which also represents that transport more than 60 percent of Minnesota school children.
