Pinehurst Bonspiel Returns this Weekend
Naytahwaush, MN — “We can’t NOT do it!” Those are the words of Pinehurst Resort’s Andy Lavoy in regards to this weekend’s 11th annual Bonspiel Curling Tournament on South Twin Lake near Naytahwaush. They pushed the event back a month from its usual January date to buy themselves as much time as possible with the COVID restrictions and are now ready throw stones this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. One of noticeable changes to this year’s Bonspiel is the shorter game times so they can wrap up before 11pm each night.
Other than the early closing times, Lavoy says you’ll still be able to do most of the same fun activities that you could previous years such as jamming to music, hanging at the ice bar, or playing games at Pinehurst.
Historically trying to compete in the Bonspiel Curling tournament if you hadn’t before took several years on the waiting list, but because it was pushed back to a new date this year they were able to open it up to some new teams.
If you would like to register a team or would like more information, contact Pinehurst Resort at 218-935-5745. Temps for Bonspiel, which runs Friday, February 26th through Sunday February 28th, are expecting to be in the teens to twenty above, making it one of the warmer Bonspiels in recent memory. Spectator, of course, are more than welcome.
