Mahnomen County Tops the State in Vaccination Rates
Mahnomen, MN — Compared to the statewide average of 5%, Mahnomen County is rising above the rest when it comes to vaccination rates with more than 21% of the county having received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Friday morning. That’s just over 1,100 people with around another 100 people that have received the 2nd dose as well. White Earth Emergency Operations Commander Ed Snetsinger says it’s nice for Mahnomen County to be on the positive side of the county rankings, which also ranks towards the top for poverty, obesity, and STDs. He credits the health care workers and public health officials for their hard work and community members for stepping up to get the vaccine when called upon.
There are only a handful on active COVID-19 cases on the White Earth Reservation at this moment. As those numbers continue to drop and vaccinations increase, Snetsinger is hopeful there may no longer be a need for the Emergency Operations Center.
Mahnomen County and the White Earth Reservation certainly aren’t out of the woods yet, but Snetsinger adds that if community members can continue to stay vigilant over the next couple months, there is reason to be hopeful.
Of the 1,114 people vaccinated in Mahnomen County, 621 are of the age 65 of older, 289 are between the age of 50 and 64, 203 are between the age of 18 and 49, and 1 is under the age of 18.
