Mahnomen City Council News & Notes from 1-19-21 Meeting
Mahnomen, MN — The Mahnomen City Council had discussions regarding the proposed new fire hall, public works staff, and the need for housing at their second regular monthly meeting last Tuesday, January 19th. In regards to the new Fire Hall, the Mahnomen City Council approved the final construction plans so they can move forward with the pre-bidding of the roughly $1.5 million project. However, Mahnomen City Administrator Mitch Berg says there a couple of obstacles they must overcome before they put it out for bids, including finalizing the financing and examining some potential contamination issues.
The plan is still to start construction on the Fire Hall renovation sometime later this year.
During his administrator’s report, Berg and the council had some discussions on his interest in bringing a new housing development to the city. Before they can move forward, they must complete a housing study to determine the want, need, and economic feasibility, according to the Administrator.
And to fill the Public Works Superintendent Position, the Mahnomen City Council decided to hire internally within the department and will also move forward with hiring an additional public works employee to fill out the department’s needs.
The Mahnomen City Council will meet next on February 1st at 6:30pm.
