Aitkin School Board with 2021 updates, enrollment, Capital Projects Levy at January 11th meeting

(Aitkin, MN) — Yearly renewals and updates from the Return to School highlighted the Aitkin Public School Board meeting from Monday night at the Aitkin Public Schools Media Center.
Dennis Hasskamp was elected Board Chair, Noel Bailey was named Vice Chair, Cindi Hills was chosen as Clerk, and Kevin Hoge was named Treasurer. Committee appointments, the Aitkin Independent Age as the District’s official newspaper, depositories for school funds, appoint Business Manager Heather Hipp to sign all bank accounts, and meeting dates, time, and places for 2021 were approved by the Board.
Discussion for Superintendent Evaluation was opened at the meeting with Board member Dawn Houser noting that evaluation and goal setting are two separate issues.
The Board made recommendation to set up a form and process with the Personnel Committee for the Superintendent Evaluation to take place in May or June 2021. Superintendent Dan Stifter updated the Board on a school resource officer to the District.
Stifter, and High School Principal Paul Karelis, spoke about increased enrollment coming into 2021.
Extensions of Staff COVID Days was also discussed.
The Board approved extended to March 31st on the days staff have remaining. Stifter has also been working on reformatting the Capital Project Levy.
The Aitkin Public School Board is next scheduled to meet for their Work Session on Monday, January 25th at 7pm.
