Brainerd City Council Meets for First Time in 2021

(BRAINERD, MN) — The city of Brainerd held its first regular council meeting of 2021 on Monday, January 4. We spoke with Mayor Dave Badeaux to get the latest news for the city and to talk about what’s lined up for 2021.

As this was the first council meeting for the new term, Badeaux talked about seeing some fresh faces at the meeting and getting everyone on the same page.

With new blood comes a parting of the old, and as the retirements of Parks Director Tony Sailer and Police Chief Corky McQuistan were key storylines last year, the city wanted to make their best effort to honor their service with the prestigious Tower Award.

Badeaux then updated us on the search to replace McQuistan, explaining how the council decided to extend a conditional offer to a Brainerd native.

To wrap up, Badeaux looked ahead to the rest of 2021 and talked about some of the things he anticipated happening and the direction the city wants to go.

We thank Mayor Badeaux for his time. The city of Brainerd will hold its next regular council meeting on January 18. Our full interview with Badeaux, in which he talks more about some of the new arrangements in the council, can be found below.
