Mayor Tibbitts, member Wagner attend final Aitkin City Council Meeting on December 21st

(Aitkin, MN) — Monday marked the final appearances for Mayor Gary Tibbitts and Council member Erin Wagner at the Aitkin City Council meeting from the Community Room of the Aitkin Public Library.
The Council approved authorizing signatures of incoming Mayor Megan Workman, Accounting Clerk Teresa Butcher, and Deputy Clerk Jennifer Thompson for all financial accounts held by the City of Aitkin, and the Engagement Letter for Year End 2020 Audit from CliftonLarsonAllen.
In his final Mayor’s Report, Gary Tibbitts took time to send thanks to all from over the years.
City Administrator Rose Beverly spoke to the Council on the Airport Commission meetings moving to Wednesdays starting in 2021. City Engineer Phil Martin, under the Administration Report, discussed Bolton & Menk and their proposal for the Capital Improvements Plan.
Martin also touched on the firm’s plan for the Bunker Hills Drive, and 1st Street NW, and 1st Street NE & 3rd Street NE projects.
The City did approve the proposals to get through the design stage with projects bids set to begin in late February, early March 2021. The Council also approved temporary relief to the Riverside Pub with lease payments beginning once they can reopen after the shutdown of bars and restaurants is lifted.
Administrator Beverly spoke to the Council about the notice of retirement for Aitkin Police Chief Tim Catlin, along with the Separation Agreement and Release and Waiver of all claims.
The resignation of Chief Catlin was accepted by the Council. Council member Amanda Lowe presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Council member Erin Wagner and Distinguished Service Award to Aitkin Mayor Gary Tibbitts. Wagner offered some parting words to the Council and Administration.
The Aitkin City Council will next meet on Monday, January 4th, 2021.
