Aitkin School Board Work Session talks Levy, School Reopening

(Aitkin, MN) — The Aitkin Public School Board held another Work Session meeting Monday night to further discuss the continuation of the Capital Projects Levy and their stance on School Reopening ahead of Governor Tim Walz’s announcement Wednesday.
Board members moved forward with more discussion on taking deficit spending with a 25-percent fund balance remaining for the Aitkin School District as approval still in wait, board member Cindi Hills spoke about the urgency of approving a plan for the sake of public information.
Superintendent Dan Stifter laid out the plans leading up to possibly reopening school after the Remote Learning period that ends January 15th.
Conversations have also presented different approaches to returning to school.
Discussions on a survey being sent out to families on asking if they feel comfortable sending their children back to school providing guidance for the Board to not go that route. The Aitkin Public School Board will be next meeting for a Work Session on Monday, December 21st at 7pm.
