Ada, MN — The Cold Weather Rule, which helps protect and reconnect your heat source, is now in effect. It’s in effect each year from October 15th through April 15th and is available to help those who are having difficulties keeping up with their winter heating bills. It’s available for residential customers only who rely on natural gas or electricity for their primary heat source. However, it does not mean that your local utility provider cannot shut off your heat. Ada Public Works Director Brian Rasmussen says customers must set up a payment plan and must make an intent to pay.

There are also a number of local organizations such as the Salvation Army or Social Services that provide assistance with your heating bills.  There are also assistance programs through the state that may be able to help as well. Rasmussen encourages contacting City Hall for more information.
