Aitkin County man in custody after reports of shooting father

(Aitkin County) — Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office has in custody a male who reported that he shot his father.
On November 6th, Aitkin County Dispatch received a call from a woman reporting she had received a call from her son, Andrew Riley O’Neil, telling her he had just killed his dad and was on the way to get her. Deputies, familiar with O’Neil from previous incidents, responded to the father’s residence. As reported, en route O’Neil was located near a stalled vehicle on Highway 47, displaying assaultive behavior toward a woman who stopped to help him. O’Neil was immediately arrested.
Subsequent to his arrest, O’Neil told a deputy that he had pointed the gun at his father and pulled the trigger 4 times but the gun never went off.
On Monday, December 7th, an Amended Complaint was issued charging O’Neil with 7 felonies (Felony Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Felony Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, Felony Assault 2nd Degree Dangerous Weapon, Felony Threats of Violence, Felony Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Felony Criminal Damage to Property 1st Degree) along with four misdemeanor charges. O’Neil remains in custody since his arrest.
