Crosslake Man Dies After Truck Goes Through Ice on Cross Lake
A 24-year-old Crosslake man died Friday, Dec. 4, after the truck he was driving, which was reportedly stolen, went through the ice on Cross Lake near the intersection of Daggett Pine Road and County Road 66, according to a news release from Crosslake Police Chief Erik Lee.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Crosslake police received a call of a truck in the water at noon Friday. The caller believed the truck was occupied. When police arrived at 12:03 p.m., they found the vehicle to be completely submerged, the news release said.
Crosslake Fire Department personnel extricated the man from the vehicle at 12:23 p.m. Fire and North Ambulance personnel performed lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was reported stolen at 11:57 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, the news release said. Initial investigation indicated the driver was traveling at a high speed and went through the T intersection, launching over a berm and landing in the lake after breaking through the ice.
The man’s body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The Breezy Point Police Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
