Mille Lacs Walleye Possession changes in effect for winter angling

(Mille Lacs Lake) — Tuesday, December 1st marked the beginning of new regulations with Walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. We had the chance to speak with Wealthwood Area DNR Conservation Officer Mikeena Mattson on what anglers can expect with the possession limit on Mille Lacs with the winter regulations.
Anglers will be able to keep one walleye between 21-23 inches or one fish longer than 28 inches. Meanwhile, the winter regulations remain the same as the last two seasons. Mattson says the new regulation will not affect the population, which has been relatively stable over the last 4 years.
Harvest from the winter of 2020-21 will be counted toward the state’s 2021 annual share of the walleye from Mille Lacs with the eight Ojibwe tribes. Mattson says the regulations are available in multiple forms.
More information on Mille Lacs Lake, including complete fishing regulations, are available on the DNR website.
