Governor Walz Brings Legislators Back for 5th Special Session
The Minnesota State Legislature has reconvened in St. Paul for a special session to extend Governor Walz’s Peacetime Emergency Powers for another 30 days. This is the fifth time since the pandemic began in March he has issued an executive order extending those powers. Each time he issues the order, the Governor is required to call back lawmakers for a special session, so they have the opportunity to repeal. MN House Speaker Melissa Hortman believes its important to uphold the Governor’s peacetime emergency.
And while lawmakers are at the capitol, Speaker Hortman says the House will consider a jobs and local projects bill, otherwise known as a bonding bill, which will also contain a tax credit and other measures to help our economy.
Majority Leader Ryan Winkler says thousands of jobs can be created and saved by the bonding bill.
The House is expected to vote on the $1 million bonding bill on Wednesday.
