Pheasant Season Takes Flight in MN with More Opportunities Locally

Detroit Lakes, MN — The Minnesota Pheasant season got underway at 9am this past Saturday and there’s still plenty of season left to get yourself a bird or two, as well as plenty of opportunities locally. While counties such as Norman, Mahnomen, and Becker County may not be considered prime pheasant hunting destinations, MN DNR Detroit Lakes Area Wildlife Supervisor Rob Baden says there are several great Wildlife Management Areas in the region worth hunting.
Each year the DNR does road counts to get an idea on the pheasant populations. And although this year’s road count didn’t show much of anything, Baden is confident they made it through the winter fine and are doing well.
And for those new to pheasant hunting, Baden reminds them to follow all the basic rules and regulations as well as be on the lookout for other bird species.
The Pheasant Season runs through January 3rd. Visit www.dnr.state.mn.us/hunting/pheasant for more information.
Also young deer hunters will be taking to the stands again this week as the Youth Mentored Deer Hunt returns during the MEA break.
